How to use the GPA calculator
GPA (grade point average) weighs the grade you earned in each course by how many credit hours that course was worth. A four-credit A counts for more than a one-credit A. This calculator uses the standard US 4.0 scale and the plus/minus variants most universities recognize.
- Add a row for each course. The name is optional — it is just a label.
- Pick the letter grade you earned. The tool assigns the grade point value (A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, and so on) automatically.
- Enter the credit hours for the course. A typical 3-credit course should be entered as 3; a 4-credit lab course as 4.
- Add more rows until every course is listed. Your weighted GPA updates instantly as you type.
The math
For each course, multiply the grade points by the credit hours to get quality points. Sum the quality points across all courses, then divide by the total credit hours. That ratio is your GPA. Courses you withdrew from or passed pass/fail do not affect GPA — leave them out.
