How to use the currency converter

The converter uses reference rates from the European Central Bank, served via frankfurter.dev. The ECB publishes one set of mid-market rates each working day around 16:00 CET — so the rate you see here is accurate to within a day, not to the second. For a rough trip-planning or back-of-envelope conversion that's plenty. For a live trading rate or an actual payment, check your bank or broker.

1. Type the amount in the Amount field.
2. Pick the source currency in the From dropdown. The search box filters by code (USD) or name (dollar).
3. Pick the target currency in the To dropdown.
4. Use the swap button between the two dropdowns to flip the direction — handy when you realize you had them the wrong way round.
5. Read the result. The rate timestamp below the selectors tells you when the data was last refreshed; rates are cached locally for one hour to keep the tool snappy.

Mid-market vs. retail

The ECB rates are mid-market — halfway between the bid and ask a bank would quote a large counterparty. When you actually convert money (at an ATM abroad, through your bank, via a remittance service) you'll pay a markup of 0.5% to 4% on top, depending on the provider. Don't be surprised if your card statement shows a slightly different amount than what this tool predicted. This is informational, not a quote.
